Delhi has a lot of places within a day's drive. When a driver takes the wheel, everyone else can look out of the window. Here are some popular ones.
Where to go
- Mathura and Vrindavan (about 150 km): temples and ghats. An easy trip with elders.
- Agra (about 230 km): the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. The Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, so plan around that and check current timings.
- Chandigarh (about 250 km): gardens, wide roads and a slower pace.
- Jaipur (about 270 km): forts, palaces and markets. Best with a night or two.
- Haridwar (about 215 km) and Rishikesh (about 240 km): the evening aarti on the Ganga and walks by the river.
These distances are approximate and change with the route.
Before you leave
- Start early, so you are out of Delhi before the traffic builds.
- Agree the route and main stops with your driver beforehand.
- Book early for long weekends and festival seasons, when roads and hotels are full.
- Pick a car that suits your group, so the ride back is comfortable too.
Round trip or one way
If you want the car with you at the destination, take a round trip. If you only need a drop, ask for a one-way drop.
